TORONTO — Mélissa Nepton had recently won the Target Emerging Designer Award in Montreal this past spring and now, she is a force to be reckoned with! Her Spring/Summer 2014 collection entitled, “Pikuseru,” meaning “Pixel” in Japanese was showcased Tuesday evening during Toronto’s World MasterCard Fashion Week.
Her runway offering consisted of comfort, sport-like aesthetics and a modern finespun on femininity. Although many are calling her collection sporty, the fundamental basis ultimately lies in textures, prints and shape. Quilted materials, fine mesh overlays, sequins, sheer paneling with opaque square patterns, and pixelated digital prints were prevalent.
From flowing skirts and trousers, to boxy tops, Nepton managed to effortlessly present a fashion forward collection that meshes a ready-to-wear, modern, couture take for young professionals. Colour blocking of white and black accented well with hints of cream, mint green and ice/navy blues.
As an added highlight, Nepton’s exclusive apparel line is set to be sold at Target stores in Quebec by 2014.
