TORONTO - One of the most talked about shows this season at Toronto’s World MasterCard Fashion Week was Mikael Derderian’s collection of gorgeous fairytale-like gowns. It’s hard to believe but this is in fact his first collection under his own signature label, Mikael D— and he was lucky enough to close fashion week on Friday evening in an unforgettable, romantic way.

The beautiful and elegant evening wear contrasted well with the clean, white runway and focused on tailored-hugging silhouettes. The colour palettes were fairly neutral and tasteful in style— black, white and nudes stole the show with exciting pops of emerald greens, royal blues and metallics. Shapes, cuts and details were very avant-garde yet very classy and sexy. Beading against a nude gown gave a wedding dress-like aesthetic that high profile designers such as, Zuhair Murad uses.

Derderian’s couture-level craftsmanship is definitely one to be on the lookout for.

My personal favourite has to be the white ballerina cut front with a fluffy, swan-like cape tail. Beautiful.
