Was anyone as surprised as I was when I found out Lady Gaga is the new face of Versace? Nonetheless, it's a pretty darn good, spot on paring. I mean, Gaga actually looks like a young Donatella Versace, no?
The Versace brand confirmed via Twitter on Saturday, stating, "#Versace proudly confirms @LadyGaga as the face of SS14 campaign shot by Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott #VersaceLovesGag." Followed by an updating tweet today, showcasing "The 2nd image of the latest #Versace SS2014 campaign @ladygaga is captured with the new Palazzo Bag #VersaceLovesGaga."
Yes, that's right, the campaign has its own hashtag: #VersaceLovesGaga.
It's hard not to notice Gaga's long, platinum blonde hair (whoops, wig?) in the ad, channeling Donatella's signature look. Not only is she owning Donatella's look, she also prides herself to be one of the Italian design house's most loyal fans over the course of her career years. In fact, according to Huffington Post, Donatella "opened the Versace archives for the very first time for a music video to outfit Gaga in her 2011 Edge of Glory video" and continued to dress Gaga for her 2012 Born This Way concert tour. In an interview with Fashionista, Donatella expressed:
"Lady Gaga is unafraid to push boundaries and she has created an original vocabulary by merging fashion, music, theatre and art. For me, this video represents a wonderful tribute to anyone who is unafraid to take chances."
Now, Donatella Versace herself has granted an extended ultimate BFF gift: a spot in the new ad campaign. Oh and if you caught on, it's the same dress Gaga wore to last night's American Music Awards.
