Founded in 2006, Italian eyewear brand, RETRO SUPER FUTURE officially opened their global flagship store in New York City last week in the ever-so-popular SoHo district on Howard Street. Handcrafted in Milan, Italy from the day of its birth — it's quite the shocker that their first ever flagship store would land in North America — but hey, it's a smart move on their end as their highest business traffic comes from none other than North Americans. With that being said, here are a few teaser photos from their breathtaking, loft style, open space shop courtesy of Highsnobiety.
The interior of the store was designed by none other than the SUPER team by creative architect, Andrea Caputo. The cold, industrial, open space contrasts beautifully with the warm, tall red-brick walls, natural light and light-grain wood tables and furniture — offering a minimalistic, comfortable and inviting space. The brand's entire sunglass and optic collection is showcased neatly throughout the perfectly lined tables, accompanied by their individual respective cases. Going with the open-space theme, the shop offers easy access for viewing — giving each client the opportunity to feel, examine and try on the product. For added storage on a massive inventory, the shop also offers drawers below each table which, is also accessible for clients to open for further options.
The use of the shop's natural light allows for an open space greenroom-esque wall which features cactus plants that rests between the brand's current and old catalogues. The organic flow of the store transitions well with SUPER's organic use of high quality acetates, metals and titanium materials.
Yes, it's no doubt their flagship store photographs well but much like myself (being from Toronto, Canada), I have yet to visit the shop firsthand on my next NYC vacation. With that being said, if you're from Toronto (or local) and are unable to make a trip to NYC to grab ahold of SUPERS, swing by Spectacle's flagship store located in the city's West Queen West strip (752 Queen St. West) where they have a collection of SUPERS. PS. I'm a stylist there and a huge lover (and owner) of RETROSUPERFUTURE frames so feel free to ask me questions.
