As some of you may know, aside from being a freelance journalist, I'm also a stylist. With that being said, I dedicate my time a few days a week as a frame stylist at Spectacle, Toronto's award-winning lifestyle eyewear boutique in the city's fashion and design district on West Queen West (752 Queen St. West to be exact).
After a crazy busy weekend of styling approximately 50 clients, I found some down time once the shop closed to snap a few selfies with two of my current favorite frames by Thom Brown and a collaborated collection with Oliver Peoples and MAISON KITSUNÉ, a French brand focused around fashion, music and design.
I customized my (black and gold titanium) Thom Browne frames (model: TB 101-D) that were originally sunglasses with a vintage blue tint, into clear transition prescription lenses. What does that mean exactly? Well, although my lenses are clear indoors, once I step outside during the day, my lenses activate to the UV levels and change into sunglasses with a grey tint. The higher the UV, the darker my lenses go, and on gloomy days when the UV levels are low, my lenses have a slight grey fade tint, mimicking a fashion tint similar to celebrities on the red carpet like Johnny Depp and Robert Downey Jr. Trust me, it looks epic! But don't get it twisted, I kept the original vintage blue lenses just incase I wanted to switch up my look here and there.
The Oliver Peoples x MAISON KITSUNÉ sunglass collaboration is absolutely stunning and is obviously one of my favorites right now! The translucent champagne colored acetate paired with vintage rose gold lenses are to die for! This hands down, will be my go-to spring/summer frames.
My outfit consists of one of my current favortie pieces - the Gitman Vintage Bro. slim-fit, snow leopard print, men's button-up in a men's size XS that I picked up from a local men's shop in Toronto called NOMAD. As a men's fashion enthusiast, Nomad is without a doubt, one of my go to's because they offer a carefully selected range of goods including: heritage brands, mixed with today’s emerging designers and various respected fashion labels.
My jeans are from a raw denim brand called Nudie Jeans Co. and the style is called "High Kai" as they are a high waisted fit that hits right at my belly button. I'm super, super picky with how pants fit me and I've got to say that Nudie Jeans are one of my favourite denim brands because of its natural rawness; meaning, there isn't a lot of give but it will certainly mould to your body shape and wear and tear over time where need be with your everyday movements. It's one denim brand that becomes customized to your body overtime and over use. I've had mine for about 5 years now and they are absolutely perfect and will be forever irreplaceable.
