Nike #GETOUTHERE Cold Weather Training Campaign

I've recently had the opportunity to help launch Nike's #GETOUTHERE cold weather training journey in Canada at the Toronto Nike Loft. Myself, alongside a group of fitness, media and influencer personalities were put to the test with high intensity field training and power runs in Nike's latest cold weather innovation gear including the Nike Therma-Sphere MaxAeroReact and Hyperwarm. Nike's #GETOUTHERE campaign is made to inspire athletes at every level who want to train and embrace the winter weather.

Prior to hitting the field, the group and I were thoroughly informed about Nike's latest cold weather innovations. For instance, the AeroReact is a wearable technology that can intuitively sense, and respond to performance in real time. Fabric opens up in response to moisture (sweat) to keep athletes' temperature just right. The Therma-Sphere Max fabric contains durable, water-repellent coating that is also wind-resistant, protecting athletes against the elements. In addition, the Nike Sphere raised nodes trap warm air the way a wet suit traps warmer water, plus it’s 34% more breathable than its previous therma-sphere technology. Nike's latest Hyperwarm technology has upgraded its design and aesthetic for athletes combating cold weather outdoor workouts by combining multiple textures into one form-fitting garment. In addition, for the first time, Nike.com allows consumers to filter product searches by specific weather conditions such as Freezing, Cold, Cool and Dark. 

As a bonus, Nike released its new ad entitled, “Snow Day”, which kicks off the larger #GETOUTHERE cold weather training campaign. The 60 second ad features a roster of high caliber athletes, including Canada’s Paula Findlay and Steven Stamkos. The short film highlights Nike's latest winter innovation products, while telling a story of an overnight blizzard that entices athletes, from an array of sports, to face off and play a fun but ferociously competitive game of tackle football in the snow. 

Much like the Nike ad, the group and I were led to do football inspired training drills alongside Eric Black of the Toronto Argonauts, and Nike Master Trainer, Eva Redpath. The workout consisted of H.I.T. (High Intensity Training) drills that tested our speed, agility, and endurance. Although it was without a doubt, a challenging workout, the ladies and I are much more accustomed to Eva Redpath's high intensity drills due to our weekly N+TC (Nike+ Training Club) workouts. Seeing the men struggle between intervals was priceless. Nonetheless, we all got out there and we're in this together for the next six weeks of training!

As part of the #GetOutHere campaign, Nike is looking for the best stories of athletes training outdoors in the elements, and they're on an extensive search to find the 48 most weather-defying athletes to compete in the Get Out Here Challenge. This will be the ultimate cold-weather training experience to be held in Chicago during the week of December 8. To have an opportunity to be included, athletes can create and submit their own outdoor training photos and videos on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram utilizing the hashtags #GetOutHere and #Contest.
